History and Background

infoclio.ch is a national research infrastructure for the historical sciences in Switzerland. Its mission is to strengthen the visibility of Swiss historical research on the Web, to develop transversal forms of scientific communication, and to act as a competence centre to experiment and support innovations related to digitisation in the historical sciences.

infoclio.ch strives to provide a detailed overview of current events in the historical sciences in Switzerland, and to be both a central information platform and a research tool for the professional community and interested persons. To this end, infoclio.ch focuses its activities on four pillars:

1. Visibility: Sharing of and access to information, knowledge bases and research data

2. Communication: Promoting exchanges within the scientific community and beyond

3. Innovation: Experimentation and support of digitization in all stages of the research cycle

4. International networking: Developing international cooperation for historical sciences

infoclio.ch was created in 2008 as an initiative of the Swiss Historical Society (SSH) and the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (ASSH).
